DISCOVERY is a South-East (UK) based covers band, formed from experienced musicians who have come together through a mutual desire to entertain.
We specialise in providing entertainment for all kinds of functions from corporate events to wedding receptions, birthday parties, PTA events, social club entertainment evenings and so on. And you can be sure we will deliver, whatever the occasion because we enjoy performing as much as you will enjoy our performance.
We are a four piece, fronted by vocalist Lucy, plus strong backing vocals and harmonies and we are completely live no backing tracks here! Find out more about the band on our Meet The Band page!
Our set lists are made up from songs that come from all eras from the late 50s to the present day, all genres from R&B to Rock'n'Roll and everything in between. Great rockers, Motown mega-hits, Pop classics, and some big ballads thrown in for the occasional smooch. So something for everyone - and we will tailor our performance to suit your event.

Our aim is to make your event a success by providing entertainment that will fill the dance floor and get you singing along, as you rediscover some of your favourite songs - songs from all eras and popular genres including Rock, Pop, Blues, R&B, Motown, and even a hint of Jazz!

Lucy - Vocals
Lucy spent her formative years training & performing in the theatre, with singing taking the priority. She made her band debut at the age of 15 years & knew she wanted to make singing her career. After training in acting & musical theatre for 5 years at Mountview Theatre School, she worked professionally for 5 years doing various musical shows. This included International & National Tours, in which she took leading roles & also Company Manager, & various residential contracts. She took a planned 6 month break that ended up being considerably longer, but managed to fit in several other careers, most importantly motherhood! She returned to the stage in 2005 & after some very encouraging reviews, she joined an acoustic trio. The success of this led to another covers band & some solo ventures. Lucy now teaches young children singing, dancing & acting & loves the opportunity to pass on her enthusiasm to the younger generation – all good practice for keeping the rest of the band in check!
Len - Drums & Backing Vocals
Len has been playing the drums since – well – a very long time… playing in bands at school, college and more recently through to successful long term tenures with Berkshire-based covers bands ‘Undercover’ and ‘Target’. In 2009 Len decided to start his own project, which has become DISCOVERY. Having conducted an extensive search for other like-minded, talented musicians who simply want to entertain and have fun at the same time – we have the line-up you see on this web-site! Along with Baz the Bass, Len provides a solid rhythm section for DISCOVERY, laying down the grooves that will make you want to stay on the dance floor all night. Len is also the main backing vocalist - his harmonies are the perfect complement to Lucy's lead vocals. Len seems to be the ‘follically challenged’ member of the band, but thankfully Baz and James compensate for him admirably!
James first picked up a guitar at the age of 7, influenced by Elvis Presley records. A few years later he played his first pub gig on a family holiday aged 11! In his early years his musical education was with some of the best guitar tutors in the West Midlands, covering many areas and styles of music: rock, blues, reggae, jazz etc. James won the Takamine Acoustic Guitarist of the Year award at the 1997 Bath International Guitar Festival. James plays a wide range of musical styles, everything from percussive acoustic guitar instrumentals, with singer-songwriters, to good old lead based rock/blues. James has played throughout the UK & Ireland with Staffordshire based acoustic blues / rock outfit Urban Stew, and also as a member of the London based, 'British Lounge Country' group 'The Parish Music Box'. These days when not playing with DISCOVERY James offers guitar tuition (any style, acoustic and/or electric) from his home in Surrey. Baz the Bass
Baz has been playing in rock and blues bands in and around London for many years and has had the privilege to support a number of name artists and bands. He has also worked in several cabaret and function bands including Bazaar, Abacus, Latitude, and Retrospect and was bass player in Bobby Davro's support band.
He played with Charlie Hart (of Ronnie Lane’s band Slim Chance) and the Fake Faces at the Ronnie Lane tribute show at the Ruskin Arms in 1997 and in 1998 the Faces Convention with the Band Stone Cold Sober. More recently he has been playing classic rock originals with Phil Smith and the Headsmith Band, who supported some great bands including Michael Schenker (UFO) and the Man Band. Recently Baz has been playing with the Debbie Giles Band who released an album in 2008 called Shake it Just a Little. Baz also played with a band called 'Midnight Train', alongside acclaimed artists including Sam Kelly, Paul Robson and Pete Emery

I just wanted to say a big thank you to you, on behalf of us all at school, for playing at our picnic in the park event on Saturday 19th June. Despite the miserable weather you kept our spirits up with your great music. You play such a variety of songs, but I think one of my favourites was 'I Kissed a Girl', in fact I am listening to it right now on your web site!
We certainly hope to book you again at one of our events in the future.
